There are wrong ways to show humility.

One of the wrong ways is to try to show humility by making a person feel that they said something wrong by trying to say something good about you.
Christians,
There are ways of showing humility that are not good. It is important to be familiar with them because it isn’t uncommon to show the wrong kind of humility. One of the wrong ways is to try to show humility by making a person feel that they said something wrong by trying to say something good about you.
For example, imagine that you ask a friend for help deciding what you want to study in college. They reply that you should consider calculus because you are so good at math. You reply, “What are you talking about? I’m not that good at math,” and then look at the person like they’re being ridiculous.
You say and do that because your sense of humility makes you want to shoot down the claim that you’re really good at math. However, this doesn’t just show your humility. It also makes the other person feel like they said something dumb when they were genuinely trying to compliment you and be helpful.
