The Human Mind

The human mind makes associations between a word and the tones and contexts it is heard in, a factor that needs to be kept in mind in understanding how to use that word.

This means that a number of people who are a certain age may have a negative reaction to simply hearing the name of God used.

In thinking of the best ways to explain God, Christians want to keep in mind that certain age groups, such as Millennials, grew up hearing the word God in negative tones and in negative contexts. This means that a number of people who are a certain age may have a negative reaction to simply hearing the name of God used.

There are different ideas for what to do in considering how to overcome the stigma that has come to be associated with a name that shouldn't have one. One idea is to explain what is meant by God to someone before using the name. This way, a Christian can reach a person's intellect before incurring a negative reaction that may cause the conversation to turn sour.

Another idea is to use a new name to point to God that is in keeping with today's language. People can also try to reclaim the name God by continually mentioning it in positive contexts to help remove some of the stigmas that have been attached to it. Considering how important it is help bring God and his love into the lives of others, all aspects of our work must be diligently considered.
