It's Among The Most Terrible Things To Say

We hear it too often in the US.

A Christian should be a patriot in a country that supports equality and religious freedom.

Those of you live in the US may often hear another US citizen say something negative about the US—it isn’t that they are saying something needs to be fixed but instead that they don’t like the US for some reason.  This is one of the most terrible things a person can say, although people say it now without fully realizing how bad it is because people often repeat what they hear from their peer group.

If you were on the battlefield even once when a woman or man laid down their life so you could live freely in this country, you would never forget it—not for the rest of your life.  America stands for the equality of all people and their right to freedom and happiness.  That makes it a country all Christians should proudly support.

A Christian should be a patriot in a country that supports equality and religious freedom.  It is key to note that a patriot is not a jingoist though.  Antagonism against America and Christians within the country itself often tries to paint even a healthy sense of patriotism as jingoism.  However, a real patriot isn’t a jingoist, and it isn’t Christian to be against a country that has given many lives for the sake of liberty and equality.
