First Conversations

You and another person have just told each other you are Christian.

It may be someone you already know from work or school without having known they were a Christian, so you can start by getting to know them as a Christian with some general questions about how long they have been a Christian and how they became a Christian.

Christians, you may wonder what you should say after someone tells you they are a Christian and you have replied that you are as well. It may be someone you already know from work or school without having known they were a Christian, so you can start by getting to know them as a Christian with some general questions about how long they have been a Christian and how they became a Christian. If it is someone you know, you can quickly widen your circle of Christian acquaintanceship by mentioning a shared acquaintance who you also know is a Christian--if that is possible.

In carrying on conversations with Christian coworkers, classmates, etc., you can also mention a Christian movie you have seen recently or a Christian band you like, for example. These topics are especially good for more general first-time conversations. However, the first Christian conversation you have with someone can also be much more specific and concern a serious issue they are confronting.

Sometimes, when a person says they are a Christian and asks if you are, they are hoping for prayer and someone to listen to them who shares some of their core values and has perhaps gone through a challenge they are facing. This is why it is important to be ready and willing to offer to pray for that person if they mention they are struggling with some type of difficulty. They may even be interested in finding someone to talk with concerning the suppression of religious expression that is seen in society today. It is definitely in the interest of all Christians to support each other in identifying and peacefully solving the challenges Christians face as a general whole and as individuals.
