Don't trifle with people's freedom to be seen a certain way.

It is a decision that may trifle with something as important as a group’s freedom, which is terribly unfair to those affected.

Christians,

Today, people will often accept a popular new idea with major societal implications so that they can be thought of as "forward-thinking." It isn't a decision based on independent, critical, and heartfelt thought about the idea itself, however. This decision is made because being seen as "forward-thinking" is socially popular.

Making this type of decision when it doesn't involve independent, critical, and heartfelt thought makes it an artificially forward-thinking decision that can have very harmful effects.  It is a decision that may trifle with something as important as a group’s freedom, which is terribly unfair to those affected.

Someone who is authentically forward-thinking approaches a new idea with independent, critical, and heartfelt thought to try to find out whether the new idea will really lead to help or harm. They may discover that the new idea is actually pointing society backwards in the worst of ways.  Consider new ideas that take away people’s ability to have their own things or space under the guise of generosity and sharing. Many of those ideas really lead back toward serfdom.
