Errors/"Errors" And Reflection

What is a common reason people criticize others for common and unimportant errors/"errors"?

It is important to be aware of this so that we don’t do it ourselves.

One reason people criticize others for common and unimportant errors/“errors” is because of a lack of reflection.  Consider a manager showing you around a large factory.  They chuckle condescendingly when you point in the wrong direction while trying to confirm where the bathroom is, even though it took them a week to remember where it was when they first started working there. 

It is important to be aware of this so that we don’t do it ourselves. We also want to be aware of this so that we feel less hurt when someone does it to us.  It helps us understand that the person finding fault with us for a common and unimportant error/“error” is actually making the bigger mistake.

However, when someone makes the bigger mistake, we don’t want to feel like we are better than them.  We just want to remember not to feel that there is something wrong with us.  We also want to reflect before we find fault with others so that we don’t make someone feel bad for a common and unimportant error/“error” we may have made to a greater degree before them.
