Why?

Why are Christians persecuted?

As more young people read the Bible again, they will wonder why Christians are persecuted.

As more young people read the Bible again, they will wonder why Christians are persecuted. One reason is because Christian teachings run counter to self-centered human tendencies. For example, it can be natural for people to want to make fun of others. It can also be natural for people to want what others have and try to take it or to point out other people’s problems without wanting others to consider their own.

It can also be natural for people to dislike anyone who points out that they shouldn’t mock someone for a laugh from others or act in some other way that is self-centered and harmful to others. Hence, ideas and people that challenge self-centered behavior can quickly become targets themselves. However, Christians believe that standing up for others when they are the victims of self-centered behavior is greater than the consequences.

Christians do not see themselves as the enemies of people who engage in self-centered behaviors, however. Christians not only believe in speaking against self-centered behaviors but also in reaching out to people who act that way to help them understand the value of not behaving in that manner. However, Christians still become targets for what they say and believe, and Jesus said it would be that way long ago.

It's such a shame that our society is one that persecute non-mainstream beliefs. Regardless of what I believe, I strive to listen to others with a curious, open mind, knowing I can learn something from every interaction.

Jesus did give us a warning that it would be like this, but it is worth it every single day! No time to be self-focused when you're focused on helping others and God!
