The Relevance Of Jesus's Teachings To The Public

Updated: Sep 10, 2020

Not many citizens of a free public today would doubt that an awareness of how they want to be treated should impact how they behave towards others.

Isn’t it also true that people, as genuinely different as they can be, like to be treated in a way that makes them happy?

As people begin to talk about Christianity more openly in society than they have in recent decades, the public will want to know how the teachings of Jesus relate to the daily lives of people who share different opinions and come from all backgrounds. An answer involves what makes people similar.

People share the ability to think and feel emotions such as pain and joy. Individuals can also perceive that other people can do the same. Few would doubt the fact that people can also affect each other’s thinking and emotions by the way they treat each other. Isn’t it also true that people, as genuinely different as they can be, like to be treated in a way that makes them happy?

Knowing how one wants to be treated oneself should influence how one treats others. Not many citizens of a free public today would doubt that an awareness of how they want to be treated should impact how they behave towards others. Then, aren't teachings that emphasize this idea relevant to the public at large?

I, as a believer, totally try to understand and reflect upon the teachings of Bible and what is said in it. It spreads kindness and love which is not something really hard to expect. Everyone needs to respect everyone, show kindness, no matter who we are, where we hail from. We can expect good things only when we give good.

I agree that the teachings emphasizing kindness in our actions toward others are beneficial to the public at large. Perhaps people simply do not associate the way they want to be treated with the way that they treat others. In Matthew 22: 39 it is written that "...the second is like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself". This is what first comes to mind when I think about how I should treat others. Hopefully, teachings of this nature become more relevant to society in the future and that as a result, many people will think of loving others as they love themselves.

I think one issue that we face is that many people don't really care about the well-being of others. People take advantage of others to satisfy their own needs. It’s like driving. I was always taught to never assume that any other driver on the streets is going to care about my well-being, so I had to at least do my part (driving the speed limit, no drinking and driving) to keep myself and everyone around me safe.
